Air conditioning repairs in Maidstone
We repair air conditioning for homes and businesses in Maidstone and across mid Kent, including systems we did not fit. Tell us the make, the model and any fault code on the display, and we can usually narrow the problem down before we arrive. The aim is to find the cause, not just get the system through one more week.
Report a fault
Name, number and postcode are all we need. We phone you back.
- Systems we did not fit as well
- Have the fault code to hand
- Refrigerant work kept within the rules
Common faults and what they usually mean
- Water dripping from the indoor unit. Usually a blocked or badly falling drain. Switch it off and put something under it.
- Blowing but not cooling. Often very dirty filters or coils, or a loss of refrigerant, or a fault at the outdoor unit.
- Ice on the pipes or the indoor coil. Often poor airflow or low refrigerant. Switch it off and let it thaw.
- Fault code on the display. Write it down or take a photo. It tells us where to start.
- Outdoor unit not running. Often power, a tripped breaker or a failed part.
- New noises or smells. Rattles may be loose fixings or a worn fan. Musty smells usually mean the coil or drain needs cleaning.
What to check before you ring
Make sure the controller is in the right mode, with fresh batteries, and that the set temperature is lower than the room for cooling. Check that the isolator outside and the breaker in your consumer unit are both on, and clean the filters if they are grey with dust. If the breaker trips again when you reset it, leave it off and tell us. That one is for an engineer.
Refrigerant leaks
Only someone with the right F-gas qualification may work on the refrigerant circuit, including recovering or adding gas. Because the system is sealed, low refrigerant means there is a leak, and adding more without finding it only delays the next failure. Where a leak is found on equipment over the legal threshold, the repaired system has to be checked again within a month. Older systems on R410A can still be repaired, so a leak does not automatically mean replacing the whole unit.
Repair or replace?
Age, the cost of the part and how efficient the old unit is compared with a new one all come into it. A drain, a fan motor or a sensor is usually worth fixing. A failed compressor on an old system often is not, particularly if the parts are hard to get. We set out the options and the cost of each so you can decide. If it is time to replace it, see air conditioning installation.
Common questions
Can you repair any make?
Tell us the make and model when you ring. Common makes are usually straightforward, while parts for very old or uncommon units can be harder to find.
Is a leaking indoor unit dangerous?
The water itself is condensation, but it can damage ceilings and reach electrics. Switch the unit off at the controller and put a container under the drip until it is looked at.
Is my old R410A system now illegal?
No. The ban since 2025 covers new single split systems placed on the market. Existing systems can keep running and can be repaired.
