Commercial air conditioning in Maidstone

We fit commercial air conditioning for shops, restaurants, salons, gyms and surgeries in Maidstone and across mid Kent. Customers and staff stay comfortable, and equipment that gives off heat stops turning the room into an oven. Systems are planned around your trading hours, your landlord and the rules for the building.

Why customer-facing spaces are different

Shops and restaurants have heat loads that come and go. A door standing open all day, a full dining room at eight o'clock, the lamps in a salon or hot equipment in a kitchen can all outrun a system sized on floor area alone. Tell us how the space is really used on its busiest day, because that is the day it has to work.

Town centres and older buildings

Maidstone town centre has more than a million square feet of shops and many older buildings above them. The town centre and the All Saints area are conservation areas, and a shopfront wall facing the street is rarely the right place for plant. Rear yards, flat roofs and plant areas are the usual answers, and pipes may need to run through a floor above that belongs to someone else. On a listed building, consent comes first.

Permissions to check before you book

  • Your landlord. Many commercial leases require consent for external plant and for new holes in walls.
  • Planning. The permitted development rules for heat pumps on homes do not cover business premises in the same way, so ask the council's planning team before ordering.
  • Neighbours. Maidstone Borough Council investigates complaints about noise from businesses, so an outdoor unit near flats above or behind needs careful thought.

Keeping the system running

A dirty filter in a salon or a greasy one near a kitchen quickly cuts performance, so these systems need more frequent cleaning than an office. Where a building's air conditioning adds up to more than 12kW, it also needs an energy inspection at least every five years, and larger systems have legal leak-check duties. See air conditioning servicing for what a service covers.

Common questions

Can the work be done outside trading hours?

Tell us your hours and we will plan around them as far as we can. Ask about this at the survey, because it affects the quote.

Can you cool a commercial kitchen?

A kitchen is a special case, because grease and the extract system both affect what will work. Tell us about your extract and cooking equipment so we can say whether a standard system is suitable.

Who is responsible for the energy inspection?

Whoever controls the system, usually the owner or the occupier, and where a servicing company is named as controller the landlord or occupier still has a duty to make sure it happens.
